Use and Care
The Smokin' Seal™ is easy to use and maintain. For best performance and longevity, follow these guidelines
-
Maximum Recommended Cooking Temperature
The Smokin' Seal™ is made with high-temperature food grade silicone. It is designed to optimize the sealing characteristics of your kamado-style ceramic cooker in the "low and slow" cooking ranges.
If you plan to cook at higher temps it is best to remove the gasket, but if should be safe for cooks up to 450F. Do not expose it to direct flame sources or localized areas of significantly higher temperatures in the grill (due to a bellows fan, etc) -
How to clean the Smokin' Seal™
The easiest way to clean the Smokin' Seal™ is with a mild solution of dish soap and warm water. The First Smoke Series Smokin' Seal™ is made in its natural reddish/orange color. Over time you will see the color season in and darken a little bit. This is normal.
For stubborn stains or heavy smoke residue you can use a microfiber cloth along with the dish soap and water solution to help scrub away the stains.

Storage
When not using your grill, you can leave the Smokin' Seal™ installed on the grill. If the grill sees direct sunlight it's best to keep the grill (and Smokin' Seal™) covered when not in use, to prolong the life of both.
The Smokin' Seal™ can trap moisture inside the grill so for longer periods of non-use it's recommended to remove the Smokin' Seal™ and place it in the included bag to avoid the growth of mildew or mold inside the grill.
